In The Tube
For those of us that are not surfers, here is a clip that really shows us what it’s like to go out and actually ride a board. The camera appears to be attached to the front the board and gives a great view of the surfboard rider as he paddles and strokes in order to get the board going fast enough to mount the wave, then gets to his feet and rides the waves. On some of the rides you can tell that he is completely surrounded by the curve of the wave as he ‘shoots the tube’.
In the beginning of the video you can really see him working hard to get on the wave, then as he stands on the board, you see a wall of water rise behind him as the wave mounts and begins to curl over. The wall rises over him and curls around him, enveloping him in the tube for a moment before he clears it and comes out in the frothy waves at the end. Again and again he records his rides and again and again you see him being enveloped in a wall of water. The exhilaration he feels shows plainly on his face. The excitement matched by his physical output. This is a great video for someone wanting to really know what it’s like to surf but without the aptitude to perform it or the desire to learn. The camera did a great job capturing this activity under the harsh conditions of not only water but pounding waves as it documented his progression through the curls.
