We are excited to announce the launch of the brand new Contour GPS Action Video Camera. This camera ups the ante in the world of point of view video with its milestone reaching technology and dedication to quality HD video. Another first, only from Contour, the GPS Camera is a model of what’s to be expected as the world of action video cameras progress toward the future.

Know Where You’ve Been with GPS Positioning

Built with a quality GPS system, the Contour GPS tracks your every move multiple times per second, recording your location, speed and altitude while providing you with the stats you need to up your game and compete with your friends. In addition, upon playback via the interactive map and video player, you can watch and control action as it unfolds before your eyes. Check out this video for the low down on the ContourGPS’s functionality with Christie from Contour

Get the Right HD Recording

The Contour GPS is equipped with multiple HD modes, allowing you to customize your recordings - depending on the subject matter you have before you. Recording in true HD at 1920x1080 captures footage at 30 frames per second, providing crisp, sharp HD video at the highest possible resolution. But for those instances where you might be recording sports that require a higher frame, such as surfing or paddle boarding, switch over to 1280x960 mode, which captures footage at 30fps, while eliminating the worry of cutting off heads or feet. Sometimes the need for a quicker frame rate outweighs the need for the highest possible resolution. In this case, check out 1280x720 mode - recording at 60fps, you capture all of the action, while retaining buttery smooth playback thanks to Contour’s blur reduction feature. Last but not least, just in case you happen to be in an instance where your memory card is lacking space and you seem to have forgotten a spare one… swap down to Contour HD mode, which captures footage at 1280x720 at 30fps… allowing you to still create HD video, while using far less space.

What about still photography? Contour has added this feature to the ContourGPS Camera, enabling you to shoot crystal clear 5 Megapixel stills without having to lug around an extra camera. Shooting at intervals of 1, 2, 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds, you get perfect stills in sequence with minimal effort.

Digital Sound That’ll Knock Your Socks Off

Contour believes in providing quality from every angle - and when it comes to audio, no one puts more effort into the production of the sound system than Contour. They literally employed a rocket scientist to develop the audio system of the Contour GPS, and with its wild omnidirectional microphone - located at the front of the camera… you are going to truly notice the payoff from their efforts. Drastically reducing wind noise and sound distortion, the Contour GPS captures more of the noise you want, from screeching loud to whisper quiet. Get your sound on with the Contour GPS and experience the difference.

More Memory than You can Shake a Stick at

Running out of memory is not cool, so why risk it? With the Contour GPS, you have a maximum internal SD card capacity of 32GB, meaning you can record in excess of 8 hours of video without having to change your card. So record as much as you want, without worry that you’re light on storage space.

Fool Proof Software Gets Your Editing Done Sooner

It couldn’t be easier to get your data from the ContourGPS to your computer thanks to Contour’s user friendly Storybook application. Simple editing is as easy as clicking an ‘Awesome’ button, adding a title, descriptions and tags. The ability to review your footage on the interactive map allows you to view and control the action as it happens, so bragging to your friends is easily backed up with the proof of GPS! Now that you are a professional video producer, you are all set to fire that footage online and share it with the community, as well as all of your friends on your favorite social networking sites.

Changing the World, one video at a time.

The Contour GPS Action Video Camera is truly going to change the way the world sees point of view video, with its impressive list of milestone features and dedication to quality and integrity. Weighing in at a minimal 5.2 ounces and sporting a slick, streamlined silhouette, the Contour GPS camera easily mounts anywhere via it’s patented TRail mounting system, allowing you mount you camera to a multitude of creative places… while the dual laser alignment ensures quality, level recordings.

The camera would be awesome, but you can use your GPS with a normal helmet camera as well…

@stew - you can use your GPS with a regular helmet camera for sure, but it doesn’t track your movement in the video as you ride (as above…  the gps tracking is literally in sync with the riders in the recording…) The other nice thing about the ContourGPS camera is that it is all incorporated into one handy unit.

@stew You can record and match GPS and Video up from different sources, but it is a real pain to start both at similar times. You need to sync it up afterwards. And write your own interface to play em back.

The waterproof case for the original HD is not compatible with this camera.  Will there be a waterproof case produced for this version?  And if so, when is it expected to be released?

@Tyler - unfortunately the ContourGPS doesn’t fit the current Contour waterproof case. Contour will be coming out with a new waterproof case specifically for this camera later this year, or early 2011.
