Dirt Biking & Motocross Competitions
Dirt biking or Motocross is an exhilarating sport that came from Britain, were it was originally called Scrambling. These scrambling events took place in Surrey in 1924. The bikes were rapidly improved to deal with the brutal forces of the race and todays bikes are even more sophisticated.
There are three major competitions that take place in the world of Motocross.
The first is the AMA Motocross Championship. This starts in May and ends in September. The race involves twelve rounds of racing at twelve tracks in the US. With two classes - 125cc and 250cc, the race is also referred to as the “outdoor series”.
The Grand Prix which is also referred to as the Motocross World Championship is held predominantly in Europe with a few rounds in Chile, South America, South Africa and Japan. The race lasts for thirty five minutes and two laps and has about sixteen rounds.
Annually, the Motocross of Nations takes place at the end of the year after the National and World Championship series end. It takes place in a different country ever year with past hosts being the US, Belgium and the UK.
In a lot of these events, there is often a camera shot of the view from the driver’s cockpit. This is called a helmet mounted camera. You can get a real feel for the speed that these vehicles go at and the forces that the driver must experience.
The company that makes those cameras is hosting a competition on their site where you can send in your clips of dirt biking or motocross rides. You can find out more about getting hold of one at: www.vholdrcontourhd.com or www.viopov1-5camera.com
