Mike of http://pointofviewcameras.com captured some turns using GoPro HD while skiing down Mt. Columbia, located on the Columbia Icefield (Between Jasper and Lake Louise), Alberta, Canada.

The video footage was over exposed due to the very strong reflection from all of the snow on the mountain and the large surrounding icefield and glaciers.

It took about 12 hours to reach an elevation of 3550 m (11,360 ft) (150 m from the summit) from where we skied. Snow was getting too soft increasing the possibility of an avalanche and visibility was less than ideal. The slope is around 50 degrees most of the way down, making the risk of avalanches very real. That's why -- unfortunately, we had to stop about half hour from the very top.
We started at 12am and finished at 7pm for a total trip time of 19 hours.

On March 9th 2010 I headed up to Bella Coola Heli Sports in Bella Coola BC for a five day heli boarding adventure. With a ton of new snow and a great crew we knew we were in for some great snowboarding. I brought my GoPro HD Hero with me to get some unique footage and take some photos. The footage looks great and I was really impressed with the photo quality.

In this clip here I am riding almost 5000 vertical feet of champagne powder on an experimental snowboard called the Pocket Woody designed by Johnny Q for Whitegold Snowboards. I fastened my GoPro Hero to a telescopic ski pole and set it to the R2 setting of 720 30p for the widest angle HD quality recording. This was my first time using this camera technique and I really like the results.

http://PointofViewCameras.com. Testing the GoPro HD high definition helmet cam while back country skiing near Highwood Pass, Kananaskis.

It's the highest point in Canada (2206 m / 7236), that can be reached by paved highway. We skied here on Nov 29th which is the last weekend before the highway closes for the weekend.

For this test I used the GoPro Head mount accessory since I was not wearing a helmet. Helmet would provided for a more stable mounting platform. Chest Mount would have been a good chcoice but I left that in the car :-)

I chose to shoot the video in 960p (1280x960, 4:3) resolution to get the extra vertical height, which makes the video more stable.

PointofViewCameras.com Video Tutorial:

How to use the Orange GoPro Quick Release Lock Mount Attachment(aka Doohickey).

While it's purpose is not for dampening, it does dampen vibration as a side effect of its true purpose.

The quick release lock prevents the camera from popping out of its mount in the event of a heavy rear impact. It's rare that it happens but important to use that rubber plug/lock in high impact watersports like surfing or kayaking where a big wave or impact with water could hammer the camera from behind. Good to use that lock skiing, too, where a heavy wipeout could lead to a header in the powder.
